Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE)

Assessment Practice

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is Kenya's national examination taken at the end of four years of secondary school, administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council. Introduced in 1989 as part of the 8-4-4 system of education, it replaced the earlier Kenya Certificate of Education, and a student's aggregate KCSE grade remains the principal basis for placement into Kenyan public universities and other post-secondary institutions.
