Unified State Exam (EGE)

Assessment Practice

The Unified State Exam (Edinyi Gosudarstvenny Ekzamen, EGE) is Russia's standardized examination for graduates of secondary school, serving simultaneously as the school-leaving qualification and the primary basis for university admission. Piloted in select regions from 2001 and made mandatory nationwide by 2009, it replaced a system of separate school-leaving and individual university entrance examinations, and its introduction was intended to reduce corruption and improve access to higher education for students outside major cities.
