Embodied Cognition

Behaviorist and Cognitive Processing Theories

Embodied cognition names a diverse group of theories holding that cognition is shaped by the bodily state and capacities of the organism doing the thinking. These embodied factors include the motor system, the perceptual system, an organism's bodily interactions with its environment, and the assumptions about the world built into the functional structure of its brain and body. Embodied cognition proposes that these bodily elements are essential to a wide range of cognitive functions, including perception biases, memory recall, comprehension, high level mental constructs and performance on cognitive tasks.
