All Curriculum Controversy

Curriculum Controversy groups long running public and professional disputes over what subject content should be taught and by what method, separate from Curriculum Grouping Practice, which concerns how students are sorted into classes rather than what is taught in them. Belongs here: sustained pedagogical debates such as the reading wars, the dispute between phonics based and whole language approaches to teaching reading. Does not belong here: a statute or court decision that settles a curriculum question by law, and an administrative sorting practice like tracking, which is grouped elsewhere.

Quote, Math wars, introduction
In the United States, math wars are debates over modern mathematics education, textbooks and curricula that were triggered by the publication in 1989 of the Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and subsequent development and widespread adoption of a new generation of mathematics curricula inspired by these standards.
