Eric Rofes

Eric Rofes, born August 31, 1954 and died June 26, 2006, was an American gay activist, educator and author. He directed the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center in the 1980s and in 1989 became executive director of the Shanti Project, a nonprofit AIDS service organization. He later served as a professor of education at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California, and sat on the board of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Rofes wrote or edited twelve books addressing topics spanning LGBTQ issues and education policy. After his death, Humboldt State established the Eric Rofes Center to continue his work supporting queer-feminist activism and the LGBTQIA community.
