Paddy Ladd

Paddy Ladd, born February 11, 1952, is an English deaf scholar, author, activist and researcher of deaf culture who has been a leading figure in British Deaf rights advocacy since the 1980s. He co-founded the National Union of the Deaf and appeared as a presenter on the BBC program See Hear. Ladd coined the term Deafhood and wrote Understanding Deaf Culture: In Search of Deafhood, the first comprehensive book on Deaf culture written outside the United States. His scholarship helped establish Deaf Studies as an academic discipline at the University of Bristol's Centre for Deaf Studies.
