Ruth Gudinas

Ruth Gudinas (9 December 1931 to 5 September 2014) was an American educator and activist born in Rochester, New York. She became a Catholic nun in the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester in 1950 and left the order in 1972. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in history at Nazareth College and a doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1974, with a thesis on Native American political organization in the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin. She taught in Rochester and Auburn, New York, and after moving to Wisconsin with her partner Dorothy Davids worked for seventeen years as a school curriculum developer for the Madison Metropolitan School District, creating multicultural education materials and teacher training programs. Later she co-founded Full Circle, which developed multicultural curriculum resources, and Muh-he-con-neew Press, which published works about the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.
