Samuel Thomas Greene

Samuel Thomas Greene (1843 to 1890) was a Deaf American educator who became Ontario's first Deaf teacher in 1870. He taught at the Ontario Institution for the Education of the Deaf and Dumb, which was later renamed the Sir James Whitney School of the Deaf and is located in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Greene was born in Portland, Maine, in 1843 and attended the first Deaf school in America, in Hartford, Connecticut, before he took up teaching himself in Canada. He died in 1890, twenty years after he began teaching at the Belleville institution.
