Dorothy Davids

Dorothy Davids (2 May 1923 to 4 October 2014) was an American educator, educational services administrator, and Native American and women's rights activist, an enrolled member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community. Born in Red Springs, Wisconsin, she attended school in the Native American boarding school system and became the first Native American student to graduate from Central State Teacher's College, now the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, earning teaching credentials in 1945. After sixteen years of teaching she earned a master's degree in education and human development from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1961. She later became coordinator of outreach services for the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension, running educational seminars to build awareness of Native cultures and advocate for Native self-determination. After retiring in 1985 she and her partner Ruth Gudinas ran Full Circle, which produced curricula fostering pacifism and diversity, and she served as tribal historian and helped found Muh-he-con-neew Press.
