Learning environment

A learning environment is the diverse physical locations, contexts, and cultures in which students learn, encompassing not only the physical classroom or school building but also the social and psychological climate created by relationships among students and teachers, classroom management practices, and the resources and technology available for instruction. Educational researchers study learning environments to understand how factors such as classroom layout, peer relationships, teacher expectations, and a sense of safety or belonging affect student motivation and achievement. The concept has broadened in recent decades to include informal and virtual settings, such as online learning platforms and out-of-school programs, as recognized sites of learning as well.
