Trinity College Dublin, officially the College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Queen Elizabeth near Dublin, is the sole constituent college of the University of Dublin in Ireland, founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I through a royal charter. As Ireland's oldest university it is one of the seven ancient universities of Great Britain and Ireland, and it played a notable role in Irish literature and in Dublin's recognition as a UNESCO City of Literature. It comprises three faculties across 25 schools, and its library, a legal deposit library serving Ireland and the United Kingdom, has housed the Book of Kells since 1661. Notable alumni include the writers Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift and Samuel Beckett, the philosophers George Berkeley and Edmund Burke, and statesman Eamon de Valera.
