Boston University

Boston University is a private research university founded in 1839 by a group of Boston Methodists, originally as the Newbury Biblical Institute in Newbury, Vermont, before being chartered in Boston in 1869. Its main campus runs along the Charles River through the Fenway-Kenmore and Allston neighborhoods, with a separate medical campus in the South End and satellite campuses in London, Paris, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Sydney. Nonsectarian today though historically tied to the United Methodist Church, the university enrolls nearly 38,000 students across 17 schools and colleges, is a member of the Association of American Universities, and is classified as an R1 doctoral university with very high research activity.
