When did Trinity College Dublin abolish its religious tests?
In 1873, except for the Divinity School, and the College then resisted joining a federated university.
In 1873 all religious tests were abolished at Trinity, except those connected with the Divinity School. This was part of a gradual repositioning of the College as a nondenominational institution. Between 1873 and 1908 several schemes were proposed that would have made it a member of a federated Irish university. The College resisted them strenuously and effectively as threats to its independence.
