Universities in Sub-Saharan Africa

A higher education institution located in Africa south of the Sahara, gathered under the UN geoscheme's Sub-Saharan Africa region and spanning East, West, Central and Southern Africa. This group includes several countries' oldest and largest national universities, among them institutions founded in the colonial period that became a newly independent nation's flagship university. It is kept distinct from North Africa and the Middle East, the geoscheme's neighboring region across the Sahara and into Western Asia.
