World Teachers' Day is observed every year on 5 October to celebrate teachers around the globe. UNESCO has coordinated the day since 1994, and it commemorates the anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, the standard-setting instrument that first set out the rights and responsibilities of the teaching profession internationally.
