Institutes of Technology and Specialized Science Universities groups tertiary institutions (ISCED levels 5 through 8) whose own name or founding charter names technology or the physical and natural sciences as a narrow, defining institutional mission, rather than the broad multi-faculty mission of a comprehensive research university, split out of Higher Education Institutions on that group's own disclosed institutional-mission axis. Belongs here: the California Institute of Technology, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Indian Institute of Science and the Indian Institutes of Technology at Bombay, Delhi and Madras, ETH Zurich, the Technical University of Munich, the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Delft University of Technology, KAIST and the Ecole Polytechnique. Does not belong here: a broad multi-faculty research university that also carries a strong engineering or science faculty among several others, grouped under Higher Education Institutions, and a small undergraduate liberal arts college with no dedicated science or technology mission, grouped under Liberal Arts Colleges.
