Liberal Arts Colleges

Liberal Arts Colleges groups small, historically undergraduate-focused institutions built on the liberal arts college model, a broad undergraduate curriculum delivered at a small residential college, rather than the large multi-faculty, graduate-and-research-driven mission of a comprehensive university, split out of Higher Education Institutions on that group's own disclosed institutional-mission axis. Belongs here: Barnard College, Bryn Mawr College, Morehouse College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Spelman College, Vassar College and Wellesley College, each a small independent undergraduate college built on the liberal arts college model, several founded specifically to educate women or Black students excluded from the universities of their era. Does not belong here: a comprehensive research university that also offers a strong undergraduate liberal arts curriculum alongside graduate and professional schools, such as Dartmouth College, grouped under Higher Education Institutions, and a specialized science or engineering institute, grouped under Institutes of Technology and Specialized Science Universities.
