The Singapore math method is a mathematics-teaching approach based on the national curriculum Singapore's Ministry of Education developed from 1982 onward, built around a concrete-pictorial-abstract sequence in which students first manipulate physical objects, then work with pictorial models such as bar diagrams, and only later move to abstract numbers and symbols, alongside a deliberately narrow, deep curriculum that spends more time mastering fewer topics per grade. Singapore's strong results on international assessments led to the method's adoption, sometimes adapted, in schools in the United States and other countries from the 1990s onward.
