The Suzuki method is a music-education approach developed by Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki beginning in the 1940s, built on the premise that any child can learn to play an instrument the way they learn their native language: by listening extensively from infancy, imitating a parent or teacher, and starting formal practice well before learning to read musical notation. Suzuki called the philosophy behind it talent education, and the method has since spread worldwide across string, piano and other instrument programs, organized around a common repertoire of graded pieces.
