The Chartered Financial Analyst designation is a postgraduate professional certification for investment and financial analysis professionals, awarded internationally by the United States based CFA Institute, founded as the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts in 1962 and administering its first examination in 1963. Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree, accumulate four thousand hours of qualified investment related work experience over at least three years, and pass three sequential examination levels covering topics from statistics and economics to portfolio management and investment ethics; the whole process takes an average of about four years to complete.
