International Baccalaureate

Also Known As IB
Education Governance and System Bodies

The International Baccalaureate is a nonprofit foundation, officially established in Geneva in 1968, that develops internationally standardized curricula, beginning with the Diploma Programme and later adding the Middle Years, Primary Years and Career-related Programmes. It grew from the work of educators at the International School of Geneva seeking a university-entrance qualification for internationally mobile students, and it has no single credited founder.

FAQs

Does IB mean the organization or one of its qualifications?

IB can mean the organization itself; any of its four programmes; or the diploma or certificate a programme awards.

Both. The organization's name and logo were changed in 2007 to reflect new structural arrangements, and as a result the term IB may now refer to the organization itself, any of its four programmes, or the diploma or certificates awarded at the end of a programme.
