Sidney William Bijou, who lived from November 12, 1908 to June 11, 2009, was an American developmental psychologist. He developed an approach to treating childhood disorders using behavioral therapy, in which positive actions were rewarded and negative behaviors were largely ignored rather than punished. He first proposed the concept of the behavioral cusp, and he was one of the researchers at the University of Washington, alongside Donald Baer, Bill Hopkins, Jay Birnbrauer, Todd Risley and Montrose Wolf, who applied the principles of behavior analysis to treat autism.
