Video Modeling

Social and Sociocultural Learning Theories

Video modeling, in the field of education, is a mode of teaching that uses video recording and display equipment to give a student a visual model of a behavior or skill to be learned. In video self-modeling, a student observes a recording of themselves successfully performing the behavior and then imitates it. Video modeling teaches skills such as social skills, communication skills and athletic skills through observational learning, and is used in working with children with autism spectrum disorder; its theoretical roots lie in the social-learning work Albert Bandura presented in Principles of Behavior Modification (1969), which established that humans can learn through observation and modeling.
