Alan David Baddeley is a British psychologist, born on 23 March 1934 and a professor of psychology at the University of York. He is known for his research on memory and for developing the three-component model of working memory. With Graham Hitch he proposed, in 1974, a model that splits primary memory into multiple components rather than treating it as a single unified construct, an alternative to the short-term store in the Atkinson and Shiffrin multi-store memory model of 1968.
