Critical Thinking and Contemplative Learning

Approaches to judging evidence and examining ideas closely, including critical thinking, critical reading and contemplative education. An approach belongs here when the cited article defines it through analysis of claims, reasoning or introspection. It excludes metacognition and self-regulation concepts, which sit in their own group. Teachers use these approaches to move students from taking a text or claim at face value toward weighing reasons, noticing assumptions and reflecting on their own response.
