Looping in education, also called multiyear grouping, is the practice of moving a group of children up from one grade to the next with the same teacher, for example a teacher who taught a class in third grade continuing on with the same students into fourth grade. The arrangement typically lasts two to five years, after which the teacher loops back to take on a new group of children; it is especially common in Europe and Asia.
