Georg William Rasch, who lived from 21 September 1901 to 19 October 1980, was a Danish mathematician, statistician and psychometrician, most famous for the development of a class of measurement models known as Rasch models. The Rasch model analyzes categorical data, such as answers to questions on a reading assessment, as a function of the trade-off between the respondent's abilities and the item difficulty. He studied with R. A. Fisher and was elected a member of the International Statistical Institute in 1948.
