David Bianco was an American adult education administrator who co-founded Elderhostel in 1975 together with Martin Knowlton, a not for profit organization that offered older adults lifelong learning opportunities through short residential courses hosted at colleges, universities and other institutions across North America and eventually around the world. Before co-founding Elderhostel, Bianco worked in campus administration as a dean at Brandeis University and at Boston University and as director of residential life at the University of New Hampshire, experience in organizing residential college life that shaped Elderhostel's own model of combining short academic courses with dormitory style group living on a host campus. The organization he helped start grew into one of the best known providers of educational travel and lifelong learning programs for older adults, later operating under the name Road Scholar.
