Associate Degree

Undergraduate Academic Degrees

An associate degree is an undergraduate qualification that sits between a high school diploma and a bachelor's degree, typically completed in two to three years of full-time study. First introduced in the United Kingdom in 1873 before spreading to the United States in 1898, it is now awarded chiefly by community and junior colleges, often as a stepping stone that allows a student to transfer directly into the third year of a bachelor's programme. It covers liberal arts and science tracks as well as applied and vocational fields.
