Communicative Language Teaching

Communicative language teaching is a foreign-language teaching approach that emerged in the 1970s, prioritizing a learner's ability to communicate real meaning, through activities such as information-gap tasks, role play and group problem-solving, over the accurate production of isolated grammar forms drilled in earlier methods. It became the dominant paradigm in language teaching internationally from the 1980s onward and underlies most contemporary foreign-language curricula and textbooks.
