STEAM Education

Education Reform Movement

STEAM education is an expanded approach to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) that adds the arts to the mix. STEAM programs aim to teach students to innovate, to think critically, and to use engineering or technology in imaginative designs or creative approaches to real-world problems, while still building on the mathematics and science base STEM programs provide. The distinguishing feature from plain STEM is this deliberate inclusion of artistic disciplines and creative methods alongside scientific and technical reasoning, on the premise that creative thinking enhances problem-solving in technical fields.
