Education Policy

Education policy is the set of principles and policy decisions that shape the field of education, together with the laws and rules that govern how education systems operate. Authority over it typically spreads across local, state, and federal levels of government, and some analysts treat education policy as a tool of social engineering. Its reach extends from early childhood centers through universities and job-training programs, and its central debates cover school size, class composition, teacher recruitment and pay, curriculum design, and graduation standards. As a field of study it draws on education science, psychology, economics, sociology, and political science to analyze education systems, measure how policies perform, and inform reform.
