The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a common reference framework, adopted by the European Union in 2008, that translates different countries' national qualifications systems onto a single scale of eight levels, from basic general education to doctoral-level qualifications. It is intended to make it easier for employers and education institutions across Europe to compare and understand qualifications earned in a different country, and most European countries have since developed their own National Qualifications Frameworks referenced against it.
