The Sorbonne Declaration was signed in Paris in 1998 by the education ministers of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, committing their countries to work toward greater compatibility and comparability among European higher education systems. It set out the aims that were formalized the following year in the Bologna Declaration, making it the direct precursor to the wider Bologna Process.
