The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) is a public research university and technical institute in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, one of 23 Indian Institutes of Technology created as centres of excellence for the country's training, research and development in science, engineering and technology. It has 17 academic departments, 35 additional academic centres and three schools. Established in 1958, IIT Bombay was designated an Institution of Eminence in 2018, and is among the most competitive institutes in India to enter.
