PSL University, also known as Paris Sciences et Lettres University, is a public research university and grand etablissement based in Paris, France. It was established in 2010 and formally created as a university in 2019, as a collegiate university with 11 constituent schools, the oldest founded in 1530. It awards Bachelor's, Master's and PhD diplomas across its constituent schools, and its roughly 17,000 students study disciplines including science, engineering, humanities, social sciences and the arts. PSL alumni and staff include 28 Nobel laureates, 11 Fields Medalists and 3 Abel laureates.

How did PSL become a single university when it began as an alliance of separate institutions?
PSL started as a scientific alliance and became a collegiate university in 2019 under a new French ordinance that lets member schools keep their legal personality.
PSL began in the 2000s as an alliance of five higher education institutions in the Latin Quarter of Paris, conceived at first as a scientific alliance rather than a university. In December 2018 a new French ordinance made it possible to create a collegiate university whose constituents may keep their own legal personality, similar to British collegiate universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. A decree of November 2019 then created PSL as a collegiate university with new statutes.
