UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is the UN specialized agency created after the Second World War to build peace through cooperation in education, science and culture. Its constitution, signed in London on 16 November 1945 by 41 states and in force from 4 November 1946, commits it to advancing equal educational opportunity without regard to race, sex or any distinction; its education work today spans literacy campaigns, standard setting and the global Education 2030 agenda. It has no individual founder, being the creation of a multilateral conference.
