The University of Warwick is a public research university on the outskirts of Coventry, England, established in 1965 as part of a government effort to expand access to higher education in Britain, receiving its Royal Charter of Incorporation the same year. It takes its name from the nearby county town of Warwick, about eight miles away, rather than from Coventry itself, and its main campus covers about 720 acres. The university, a member of the Russell Group, enrolled 27,880 students as of 2024-25 and has emphasized research excellence alongside close, deliberately commercial links with the business community.
