Intelligent Tutoring System

An intelligent tutoring system, usually abbreviated ITS, is a computer system that imitates human tutors, aiming to provide learners with immediate, customized instruction or feedback, usually without requiring intervention from a human teacher. Intelligent tutoring systems share the common goal of enabling learning in a meaningful and effective way through a variety of computing technologies, and there are many examples of them being used in both formal education and professional settings, where they have demonstrated both capabilities and limitations, with ongoing research aimed at improving their effectiveness given the close relationship between intelligent tutoring and cognitive learning theories and design. An intelligent tutoring system typically aims to replicate the demonstrated benefits of one-to-one, personalized tutoring in contexts where students would otherwise have access only to one-to-many instruction, such as classroom lectures, or to no teacher at all, such as online homework, and such systems are often designed with the goal of providing access to high quality education for every student.
