Comparative Education

Comparative education is a field within the social sciences that examines and evaluates different countries education systems side by side. Researchers in the field study international institutions, cross country cooperation, and the way influences move between education systems, going beyond simple two country comparisons to include single country studies and large international assessments such as PISA and TIMSS. The field works to build common terminology and frameworks that let researchers judge how well an education system or program is working. Two professional bodies associated with the field are the Comparative and International Education Society, founded in 1956, and the Comparative Education Society of India, established in 1979.
