Synchronous Learning

Instructional Design and Curriculum Frameworks

Synchronous learning refers to a learning event in which a group of students engage in learning at the same time. Before technology allowed synchronous learning environments, most online education relied on asynchronous methods, and the growth of synchronous tools such as instant messaging, live chat, webinars and video conferencing has since let students and teachers collaborate and learn together in real time from different places. Case studies have found that students are able to build a sense of community through such online synchronous communication.
