Artful Learning is a concept-based, interdisciplinary educational model that integrates the arts into every academic subject in order to strengthen learning outcomes. It was created by the composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, who used the $100,000 prize from his 1990 Praemium Imperiale to establish the Bernstein Education Through the Arts Fund, from which the model developed. Each unit of study in Artful Learning is built around four elements: experience, inquire, create, and reflect, an approach informed by research on how participation in the arts affects brain development and cognitive processing.
