The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is the national examination taken by students completing primary school in Kenya, administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council, and historically used to determine placement into secondary school. Kenya has been phasing in a competency-based curriculum intended to replace the examination-driven 8-4-4 system under which the KCPE was created, changing the assessment's role in the country's education system.

Is the KCPE still sat in Kenya?
No. It was phased out with the 8-4-4 system and replaced by a Grade 6 assessment that does not decide secondary placement.
No. The KCPE was sat for the last time by the final cohort of the nearly four decades old 8-4-4 system as the Ministry of Education phased it out in favour of the competency based curriculum. The exam replacing it is the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, taken at Grade 6. Unlike the KCPE, it is not used to determine whether a learner proceeds to junior secondary school at Grade 7 and serves as a monitoring tool for the learner's achievements.
