The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), or Malaysian Certificate of Education, is the national examination taken by students completing secondary school in Malaysia, typically at age 17, administered by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate. Introduced in 1970s reforms of the country's examination system, it is roughly equivalent to the British GCE Ordinary Level and its results are a key factor in admission to pre-university programs and, ultimately, tertiary education.
