Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is a series of international assessments of mathematics and science achievement, run by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). It was first administered in 1995 and has been repeated every four years since, testing students in the fourth and eighth grades, with a TIMSS Advanced track for students in their final year of secondary school taking advanced mathematics and physics. Alongside the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), TIMSS is one of the two major international comparative assessments used to track and compare student achievement in mathematics and science across education systems worldwide.
