CompTIA A+ is an entry level, vendor neutral information technology certification issued by CompTIA, a for profit American trade association founded in 1982 that offers certifications spanning the full range of IT careers. It is widely regarded as the long standing industry standard credential for entry level IT support roles, typically earned by passing two examinations covering hardware, operating systems, networking, security and troubleshooting. Certifications issued after 2011 expire every three years and require continuing education units to renew, and CompTIA reports more than 2.2 million people certified across over 120 countries.
