The Australian Curriculum is the national curriculum for schools in Australia from foundation year to year 10, developed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and progressively implemented from 2010 onward. It sets out what students should be taught across learning areas including English, mathematics, science and humanities, replacing the separate curricula previously set by each state and territory, though states and territories retain responsibility for implementation in their own schools.

Who is responsible for assessment and credentials under the Australian Curriculum?
The states and territories; the national authority only develops and reviews the curriculum.
The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority, an independent statutory body, develops and reviews the curriculum, but credentialing and the related assessment requirements and processes remain the responsibility of the states and territories. That split is one reason implementation has varied, with some states slower to change their own curricula than others.
