Action Learning

Adult and Lifelong Learning Theories

Action learning is an approach to problem solving that involves taking action and then reflecting on the results, intended to improve the problem-solving process itself and simplify the solutions that come out of it. The theory and its underlying epistemological position were originally developed by Reg Revans, who applied the method to support organizational and business development and to improve problem-solving efforts. It has become a common component of corporate and organizational leadership development programs, marketed as distinct from the uniform, one-size-fits-all curricula typical of many training programs, and is credited with developing individual leadership and team problem-solving skills.
