Educational Anthropology

Social and Sociocultural Learning Theories

Educational anthropology, or the anthropology of education, is a subfield of sociocultural anthropology that studies the role of culture in education and how educational settings shape social processes and cultural relations. Educational anthropologists study education and multiculturalism, educational pluralism, culturally relevant pedagogy, and native methods of learning and socializing, including the education of marginal and peripheral communities within large nation states. It is generally considered an applied subfield of sociocultural anthropology, since its focus is on improving the teaching and learning process within classroom settings.
