Psychomotor education, also called psychomotor therapy, is a pedagogic and therapeutic approach that supports a persons overall development by treating the physical, emotional and cognitive sides of a person as connected to each other and to their social surroundings. Practitioners look at how a person expresses themselves through their body as more than a mechanical or purely nervous system process, tracing how patterns of emotional expression form from early childhood experience. The field covers prevention, education, re-education, rehabilitation and research, and serves people of every age. The Aucouturier Psychomotor Practice, founded by the French pedagogists Bernard Aucouturier and Andre Lapierre, is one well known school within the field.
